Meet Tinashe

Tinashe {pronunced: ti’na’shé}, is an experienced project manager, an entrepreneur at heart with expertise in communications strategy and partnerships development. She is a social entrepreneur, a new media strategist, global citizen, community leader and a créatif strategist on the rise who enjoys piecing together ideas through innovation and creativity.

She is interested in diversity, social innovation and harnessing new media technology for social change. Born in Zimbabwe and grew up in Burundi, Kenya and Canada, Tinashe has experienced first hand the challenges that come with being a immigrant in a new city but also celebrates the colorful perspective it brings.

She studied Political Science at Concordia University in Montréal then Toronto’s Ryerson University for Project Management. Over the years, Tinashe has dedicated both her personal and professional efforts into supporting local and international development projects tackling issues on social justice and social change.

For her various contributions and commitment to city building, she was named a 2010 DiverseCity Fellow by the Toronto City Summit Alliance (TCSA) and an emerging leader in an article by the Toronto Star.

To help address some of the unique challenges faced by young refugees and immigrants, she founded immigrantyouth.org, an initiative dedicated to engaging and empowering refugee and immigrant youth to ensure that they have access to social, educational and civic leadership opportunities. For this, she was recently selected as a Pearson Fellow for Social Innovation through Pearson Foundation and TakingItGlobal.

Tinashe is also the Manager of Relationships & Communications at For Youth Initiative and the Gender Based Analysis Leader-in-Residence at Skills for Change where she’s focusing on immigrant women in leadership.
